I noticed this a few weeks ago. When I filp the switch from 2wd to 4x4. the indicator light comes on but it would not always be in 4x4. Then Saturday it started it again. I turned it off and on then to 4x4 and it worked, but later in the day it would not engage in 4 wheel at all but indicator light said it was.

We could hear a click in the solonoid by the front drive shaft ( where the 4x4 switch is wired to ) but it was like it would not engage.

Anyone have any advice or similar problems????

Critter, I wish I could help ya. Heres what I think.....

The front clutch is electric....You say you can hear the selenoid, so I would guess the sensor is working OK. But I'd still check to make sure all yer connections are good.

Looking at the diagrams... Honda has 15 different sized shims available for the clutch to the pinion gear shaft. It goes between the clutch and the gear. I guess if ya shift on the fly too many times the gear may wear a lil and need bigger shims to keep engaging. But I would think you'd get some slipping or gnashing of gears first.

Have ya checked yer fluid?

Does the 4x4 light flash?

The Honda shop has the Foreman - It was the inner axle joint that was bad and they are going to install new bearings and seals - about $500 they say - I do not have time to fix it as we are remodeling an office building downtown. Parts are around $300 so I am only saving a couple of hundred and it would cost me more than that for a weekend of work. Should be fixed middle of next week and then I am back on the trail again -

They said it was wear and tear - but come on HONDA, don't do this to me, you have never done this to me!!!! Thats why I bought a Honda in the first place.

Okay I am over it - got the cash ready LETS RIDE!!!!
